Overview of the Faculty of Business Studies

The Faculty of Business Studies (FBS) at the University of Dhaka stands as Bangladesh’s premier institution for business education, blending a rich legacy with modern academic excellence. Established in 1970 as the Faculty of Commerce, it was rebranded in 1995 to reflect its evolving scope and global orientation. Today, FBS comprises eight departments, offering a comprehensive range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs.

Academic Programs and Departments

FBS offers a structured academic pathway, including a four-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), one-year Master of Business Administration (MBA), Evening MBA (EMBA), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), and the professional Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program.

Each department specializes in its respective field, offering tailored programs and research opportunities. For instance, the Department of Finance, established in 1974, has earned a reputation for academic excellence, offering programs from BBA to Ph.D., and is equipped with modern facilities to support student learning. Similarly, the Department of International Business, founded in 2007, is the first in Bangladesh to offer specialized education in international business, integrating multidisciplinary courses to prepare students for the global market.

Facilities and Research

FBS is housed in multiple academic buildings, featuring air-conditioned classrooms equipped with multimedia projectors and sound systems. Each department maintains its own computer lab with internet access, and the faculty is fully covered by Wi-Fi. The Faculty Library offers a vast collection of contemporary books and journals, supporting both teaching and research activities.
Research is a cornerstone of FBS, with the Bureau of Business Research sponsoring projects across various business disciplines. Departments also publish peer-reviewed journals, such as the Journal of Marketing, contributing to the academic community.
